Charles (Charlie) William Swanger, 76, of Bellefonte, passed away at home on Friday, August 2, 2019. Born in State College on November 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Elmer and Virginia (Hummel) Swanger. On November 30, 1986, he married Roberta R. (Flynn) Swanger, who survives at home after sharing 32 years of marriage together.

Charlie was a 1960 graduate of State College High School. He enlisted in the United States Army following graduation and served until 1963, when he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class E3. He worked for Dee Construction, then in retirement he enjoyed working part-time at Weis Markets in Bellefonte. Outside of work, Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, Roberta, he is survived by two children, Craig (Angela) Swanger of Bellefonte, and Amy (Ted) Grove of Centre Hall, and two stepchildren, Denny (Tracey) McCloskey, of Centre Hall, and Matthew (Erin) McCloskey, of Bellefonte. He is also survived by siblings Evelyn Ritter, Elmer (Lois) Swanger, Donald (Barb) Swanger and Gerald (Kathy) Swanger. Charlie had 6 grandchildren (Tanner Rahauser, Nichole and Megan Grove, Helena Swanger, Alaina McCloskey, and Talia McCloskey) and 1 great-grandchild (Luke Grove).
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Swanger, and a grandson, Franklin William Grove.
There will be no viewing or visitation. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
