Thomas E. Corl, 91, of Howard, passed away at home surrounded by family, on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Born in Bellefonte, on April 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Sager) Corl. On June 22, 2012, in Blanchard, he married his beloved wife, Laura A. (Roan) Corl, who survives him at home.
Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944, where he served as an exhaust machine operator, until he was honorably discharged in 1946. During his service time, he received the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.
After his time in the Navy, he worked as a truck driver for Davidson Brothers for 35 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Cindy L. Conway, of Bellefonte, Thomas V. Corl, of Montana, and Cathy A. Tennis, of Bellefonte, as well as nine step-children, who he loved as his own children. Also surviving is one brother, Philip Corl, of Snow Shoe; 34 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, H. Pauline Corl, one son, James F. Corl, two sisters, Sandra McMurtrie and Shirley Bartley, and one brother, Eugene Corl.
Thomas loved to tell stories about his times trucking, fishing, and traveling when he was in the Navy. He enjoyed playing Scrabble, doing puzzles, and baking.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
