Edgar H. Eckley, Jr., 88, of Bellefonte, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Born on June 27, 1927, in Milesburg, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar H. and Anna L. (McMullen) Eckley. In 1953, at Coleville Wesleyan Church, he married Beverly (Gray) Eckley, who survives at home.
He was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. Edgar earned a Bachelor of Theology from Eastern Pilgrim College in 1957, Bachelor in Science Degree in 1970 from Penn State University and a Master of Science in 1975 also from the Penn State University. Edgar worked as an accountant for Penn State University in the property inventory department for over 28 years. He was a Sergeant who served two tours in the United States Army during WWII; he served with the 603RD tank company, first Calvary division near Tokyo Japan. For his services he received the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He also served as a Romanian Interpreter at Arlington Station in Virginia. Edgar was a member of the Coleville Wesleyan Church where he served on the board of directors and also as a Sunday school teacher.
Along with his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Rice (Louis) of Marion, Indiana, three sons; Richard Eckley (Lynn) of West Seneca, NY, Brad Eckley (Kathy Kimble) of Columbia, MD, Jason Eckley (Kelli Fike) of Bellefonte, by three brothers; Dale Eckley of Bellefonte, David Eckley of Bellefonte and Daniel Eckley of Jersey Shore. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Verna Kline and one brother, Fredrick Eckley.
There will be a public visitation held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Coleville Wesleyan Church, 326 Lower Coleville Road, Bellefonte.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 12:00noon with Reverend Ronald Kilgus officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Centre County Memorial Park, College Township.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Coleville Wesleyan Church at 326 Lower Coleville Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
