Mary Ellen Riglin, 63, of Baton Rouge passed away on June 22, 2018. She was born on October 11, 1954 in Bellefonte, PA, the daughter of Helen Mae Garrett and Gerald Bilger and raised by her step father, Charles Garrett.
Mary is survived by her husband Vincent Riglin, daughter Brooke Viguerie, granddaughter Zoey Riglin, and son in law Nicholas Viguerie.
Even after 43 years Mary continued value friendships from her childhood, those from elementary school and high school. She graduated from Penns Valley Area High School and Centre County Vocational-Technical School in 1973. She soon began working at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte, PA where she was a Licensed Practical Nurse. Mary had a special talent for nursing, often receiving cards and thank you gifts from patients whom she helped. She decided to continue her education at Lock Haven University of PA and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She began working at Mount Nittany Medical Center where enjoyed her job there until she moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 2013. She continued her career as an RN at Baton Rouge General Hospital until she retired in December 2016.
On September 21, 1974, Mary married the love of her life, Vincent Riglin at the St. John Evangelist Church in Bellefonte, PA. They were married for a wonderful 43 years. Together they enjoyed caring for their dogs and their garden. Their back porch, was Mary’s favorite place to spend time with her husband, surrounded by the beautiful plants and birds.
As wonderful of a wife and nurse she was, Mary was an even better mother. Her and her husband, Vincent, had 2 children together. Their son, Adam Riglin was born March 3, 1979 and recently passed away on May 2, 2018. Adam’s daughter Zoey brought her tremendous joy since the day she was born. She was so excited to “finally” become a grandmother and loved her granddaughter with all her heart. Her home was filled with photos of the memories her and Zoey had together from their trips to and from Baton Rouge, LA and Bellefonte, PA. Their daughter, Brooke Viguerie (Riglin) was born September 9, 1983. Mary always put her children first, showering them with love every single day. Even on her last day, she worried more about her daughter and unborn grandchild than herself. While holding her daughters hand, she expressed her sympathy for not being able to hold on long enough to meet her newest granddaughter and reminded them how much she loved them both.
In April 2017, Mary was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. It was a long battle, but she stayed strong and she fought like a warrior, even though the diagnoses were inevitable. Mary always had a love for life, enjoying every moment she could and always making every day events seem like it was an adventure. As a wife, mother, nurse, friend or even stranger, Mary was the nicest, sweetest person you would ever meet.
