For years Steve greeted me each Tuesday morning at the Centre Crest entrance inquiring about our weekly program. Often he "wheeled" into the programs and always contributed. One week, we did a program on "Wildlife in the Garden" and Steve held us all in suspense while he narrated his experience with a bear. Steve and his buddy took a motorcycle ride up into the mountains and stopped at his friend's cabin. While Steve was sitting in the porch, a bear came by and as I recall went on the porch with Steve. Meanwhile his friend is in the cabin and Steve is trying to get his friend's attention. Later, his friend said the bear was friendly, but Steve said the bear was huge and he was glad to get out of there.
Steve no only greeting us each week, he also was outside to say "Goodbye" when we left the nursing home. On behalf of the garden volunteers, we express our sincere sympathy to the family, and we have been blessed with the opportunity to have shared Steve's life at Centre Crest.
