Jean I. Sampsel, 94, of Bellefonte, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Colonial Courtyard in Tyrone. Born on January 9, 1923 in Woodward, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley J. and Dorothea (Whitley) Fiedler. On March 17, 1945 in Salina, KS, she was married to her husband, Max L. Sampsel, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2000.
She was a 1940 graduate of East Penns Valley High School. She worked at Penn State in the Undergrad Admin department and later retired from there in 1986.
She is survived by two sons, Gregory A. Sampsel (Betsy), of Julian, and Kurtis M. Sampsel (Karen), of Centre Hall; two grandchildren, Lindsey Sampsel, of Julian, and Marley Sampsel, of Port Matilda; and one great-grandson, Grayson Gregory, of Port Matilda. Also surviving is one sister, Eileen Royer, of Mifflinburg and one brother, Kenneth Fiedler, of Bellefonte.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis Bressler, Nancy Donnelly, and Maxine Boyer.
Jean was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellefonte. She was also a member of Oak Auxiliary.
Jean and Max loved traveling and visited 49 states, except for Alaska, after their retirement. They were avid Penn State fans and enjoyed attending the home and away games, as well as the bowl games. After the passing of her husband, Jean enjoyed traveling with her granddaughters to Myrtle Beach.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church at 216 McAllister Street Bellefonte from 10-11am, with funeral services to immediately follow at 11am with Pastor Will Osman officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
