Obituary for Loren A. ""Hoss"" Alters
Loren A. “Hoss” Alters, 65, of Bellefonte, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at home. Born in Lewisburg on June 26, 1952, he was the son of the late Paul and Madeline (Hosterman) Alters. On July 29, 1972, he married Wendy (Bartley) Alters, who survives him. They had just short of 45 years of marriage.
He attended Penns Valley High School and later went to work as a truck driver for Bulkmatic Transport. During his employment there, he was recognized as a “Million Mile Driver,” having driven a million miles accident free. He took early retirement due to medical issues.
He is survived by one son, Travis Alters (Bobbie) of Beech Creek, one step grandson, W.C. Kitchen, III of Lock Haven, siblings Dale Alters of Milesburg, Lavean Naugle of Selinsgrove, Colleen Guffey of Mifflinburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Alters and Delbert Alters.
Loren was a member of the Undine Fire Company and a lifetime member of the Milesburg Fire Company, Walker Township Fire Company and the NRA.
He especially enjoyed hunting, spotting deer, taking mountain rides and just being outdoors. He enjoyed buying and rebuilding old garden tractors, attending auctions, working on small projects around the house and his weekly Wednesday morning visits to Bellefonte Waffle Shop with his friends.
There will be a public viewing on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 9-11am with funeral services to immediately follow at 11am at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street Bellefonte with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Schencks Cemetery in Howard.
