Obituary for Helen L. Davis

Helen L. Davis, of State College, passed away at Hearthside Rehab Facility on March 7, 2017. She was born on November 17, 1919, in Pleasant Gap, PA to John and Esma Lee. She attended State College High School, where she graduated in 1938. Though growing up during the Depression, her family was largely unaffected, and she matured to be a happy, healthy, and beautiful young woman. In 1942, as the country entered World War II, she married John (Jack) Gingrich, of Altoona, PA, with whom she had three children- Jack Jr., Linda, and Charles Gingrich. She was a terrific Mom, and made sure we were all well-clothed and nurtured in every way. Following her divorce in 1973, she spent 10 years working at Old Main as an admin. assistant to the President and staff at Penn State. Happily, in 1983-84 she met and then remarried another Penn State employee, Clinton L. Davis, who was the retired head of Maintenance there. They lived quite happily in Boalsburg, enjoyed a beautiful home, a yard with beautiful flowers, and wonderful trips to interesting and beautiful places, as they were both retired. She luckily had nearly 26 years with Clinton until his death in 2010. After that, she was mostly happy and in good health at the Oaks in Pleasant Gap until age 93, when she was referred to a skilled nursing facility. Helen Davis was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and fabulous cook. She lived a clean, full life and suffered nothing except old age. She is survived by Jack (John) Gingrich, Jr. of Milford, DE, Linda Gingrich of State College, and Charles Gingrich of Export, PA. She also has 2 granddaughters, Lauralee Seibold of Waxhaw, NC and Janeen Gingrich of Durham, NC, as well as 4 great granddaughters, Julia, Lauren, Zora and Phoebe. Her son Charles has 3 sons, Matthew, Christopher, and Jonathan. Her life mattered; she will be sorely missed. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 4:30 pm at State College CMA Church, 1221 W. Whitehall Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church at 1221 W. Whitehall Road, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., in Bellefonte. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.wetzlerfuneralhome.com.
