Condolence: Aunt Barb, Larry, and Ben, though we have not been close as a family, it saddens me deeply to hear of your loss of Eric. I am sure that had we stayed in touch, we would have been kindered spirits as we both enjoyed the outdoors greatly. My deepest sympathies and best wishes in your time of loss, have continued faith in the Lord, and remember the good times you shared, this will carry you through.

Condolence: I was very sorry and shocked to hear of the untimely death of Eric Markel, 24 years my junior. I offer my deepest condolences to family and friends. I had worked with Eric along with Zhaowei Liu and Tom Kane at the former electrophoresis company SpectruMedix LLC in State College, PA for about 3 years from 2003 to 2006. I found him to be a steady, intelligent worker who knew how to keep on task. I enjoyed his dry, understated sense of humor and his intelligent conversation. I also remember his unending support for the Pittsburgh Steelers resulting in him placing a Terrible Towel by his desk. He will be deeply missed.

Condolence: I am so very sorry for your loss. I saw Eric at the Owego Nazarene church in the past few months but didn't have an opportunity to get to know him. He sounds like a wonderful young man with a heart for the Lord. I pray God will wrap His loving arms around you as you grieve your loss.

Condolence: My sincere condolences to Eric's family and friends. Eric was a colleague of mine, and though I didn't know him well, we had many hallway conversations with each other. You should be proud of the way he conducted himself on a daily basis, he was always light-hearted and respectful.

Condolence: Dear Markel Family,
I was shocked to hear of Eric's passing. He was a really nice young man and well like here at the USDA and it was a pleasure to have worked with Eric. I am so glad he had the Lord in his life. Prayers to you all in this difficult time.

Condolence: Dear Markel family,

I offer my sincere condolences for the loss of a great person, friend, son and brother. Eric was indeed the "real deal" as he was the most genuine person I have ever met. I am thankful that the Lord blessed me with his friendship. After working with him and getting to know him, I felt certain he was my brother in Christ. My prayers are with you and all who were touched by Eric's life. May the Lord bless and keep your family in His graces.
